MESSAGE 23 – ACCUMULATION
DR. LARRY LAMB – SEPTEMBER 12, 2021
MATTHEW 6.19-24
Freedom Practitioners = Have a plan and implement it.
Bondage Practitioners = Not having a plan is their plan that can result in despair.
1. Think eternal and not temporary.
Matthew 6.19,20
Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
Colossians 3.2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
Think of the eternal ramifications of accumulating vs. the temporal ramifications of accumulating.
2. Think honestly about placement accumulation.
Matthew 6:21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
3. Think clearly about accumulation.
Matthew 6.22,23 Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!
Investing in the souls of people is all about the ETERNALINVESTMENT because the souls of people are why Jesus came.
4. Think about the level of love for God.
Matthew 6.24 No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.
FINAL QUESTIONS
1. Do your receipts reveal a generous life for eternal enterprises?
2. Are you a slave to God (freedom) or a slave to things (bondage)?
3. Based on your current attitude about accumulating, do you see God as the owner of everything or are you the owner of your income and resources?
The answer to that question reveals much about your future. Will you have financial freedom (margin) or be in bondage?
(Financial classes beginning in 2022 at CVC to help people get free.)
Jesus, I thank You that You came and died on the cross for my sins so that I can be forgiven. I am a sinner and in need of Your grace, mercy, and forgiveness. I turn from my sins and say “No” to a life of living for myself. I turn to You and say “Yes” to Your will for my life. I ask You now to save me from my sins. I open my heart to You and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me and forgiving me.
In Jesus’ Name.
Amen.
