What is our knee-jerk response when we come across the word “ADDICTION”? What comes to mind? What about when we come across an individual who is addicted to either a substance or a certain activity? What is our impression of this person and what are our typical responses to this person?
Our answers to these questions will depend on how much we think addiction is “self-inflicted” i.e. the person chooses to begin, continue and stop using or engaging the object of addiction. This seminar hopes to facilitate a deeper understanding of addiction in order to develop the much needed empathy for those struggling with addiction. We have to start recognising that ADDICTION is more than an individual problem.
