Sky News host Peta Credlin says there was “guerrilla warfare” in the Liberal party from the day former Prime Minister Tony Abbott became party leader in 2009, which was “absolutely” orchestrated by Malcolm Turnbull and the "acolytes around him".

“Those who were gunning for [Abbott] wanted to take me out first in order to get to him”.

Ms Credlin said Mr Abbott took members of the “moderates, the left-wing of the liberal party” like Julie Bishop and Christopher Pyne into his confidence, “put them inside the tent, gave them positions in cabinet” because he wanted to build bridges.

“You can see how that good will and that loyalty from Abbott was returned,” she said.

Ms Credlin told Sky News host Chris Smith she wanted “to do something with my life, that makes a difference, that helped people feel like they’ve got a voice” which can be achieved in public life, but also in her current life "in the media domain".

Asked about whether she would ever return to Canbera and run for parliament, and ultimately become the Prime Minister, Ms Credlin said “I don’t rule it out, but I’m not gagging to go back there”.
