Karl was the husband of Illyena Groitzig. When Illyena showed Joe Robertson and Peter Parker the details of the Doomsday device, the Chameleon impersonated Karl and stole the details for the Kingpin, tying Karl up in the back of his car. However, Spider-Man chased him down and saved Karl, but the Chameleon got away with the details.
