The perfect preset to improve any photo. Sounds too good to be true, but that's the holy grail that we're going in search of in this video! Give me 30 minutes, work through the video with me, and by the end, you'll have a universal preset that will save you countless hours in the future!

If you don't have Luminar you can save using the discount code ATSKY10 at the following link http://bit.ly/2vxUi2b_Luminar4

In this photo editing video tutorial, I show you how you can build a preset that can be applied to any photo and make improvements. Being able to have a preset that works universally well is so powerful and such a huge time saver.

We'll leverage the AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools inside the popular photo editing software, Luminar 4, to create a generic preset that is designed to enhance any photo you throw at it. When creating a preset like this it's important to use tools that will work well on all photos and leave out tools which should be applied more specifically.

I spent many years photographing weddings so I needed to find ways to speed up my workflow, and increase the productivity of my editing whilst keeping the quality high. I found that developing a universal preset that didn't need to be tweaked from photo to photo was key to this.

I had a great system in Lightroom but I've been able to speed things even more in Luminar due to its use of Artificial intelligence. If you want to learn more about Luminar I have a 14 tutorial playlist: https://bit.ly/3cPREVd

I'd recommend taking and recording your photos in raw format rather than jpeg as this will give you more latitude with your edits and give Luminar more data to work with.

When you construct your generic universal preset there are some enhancements you should include and some that you should avoid. For example, obviously, you wouldn't want to include the sun rays tool as that would be unique to images that include the sun, but there are also less obvious tools that you may think you should include that you should avoid. Here are some of the tools I'd recommend including:

Lens geometry - correct lens distortion, chromatic aberration, defringe
Colour balance - As shot
Smart Contrast
Boost shadows and control highlights
Boost White point and deepen the Black point
AI enhance - probably the single most useful tool in terms of saving you time as Luminar does a lot of AI thinking for you.
AI structure - Worth considering adding but go easy on this.
Denoise - Worth including to cover high iso shots
Vignette - A personal preference but I like a subtle darkening towards the edge of the frame

Include creative filters with extreme caution and consider there effect on all genres of photography you shoot. Filters you can consider are:
Dramatic
Mystical
Colour Styles - If you're going to do one thing to create a stylized look this would be it
Film Grain - Best suited to Black and white

Thanks for watching. Any questions please leave them in the comments :)
