THE CHALLENGE OF CHANGE (Matthew 7:25)

We are surrounded by change. Some change we like: the purchase of new car or a new house, beginning a new job, the start of a new relationship.
But we often hate change: being laid off from a job, having a house foreclosed on, losing money in the stock market, a relationship break-up, the death of a loved one.
We often try to protect ourselves from change by: accumulating possessions, making or hoarding money, gathering power over family, friends, or employees on the job.
Another reaction to change is to deaden the pain of loss, failure, or insecurity through substance abuse of various kinds, whether drugs, alcohol, video games, sex, or sports.
Worldly security, however, is a delusion. And trying to deaden the pain of change only stuffs pain further down but does little to address the problem of change.
Storms of change are inevitable. So, what are we to do?
The solution is found in Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:25: “The rain fell, the waves rose, the wind blew, and beat upon that house; and it did not collapse, because it was built upon the rock.”
Please join me as we study what it means to deal with change by building our lives on the Rock.
