Trafficking in Minors - Complex realities

The phenomenon of child trafficking, and related ones, such as child labour, migration or online sexual exploitation, have always held a prominent role in the field of human trafficking. However, the urgency of the problem, its constant evolution, and the emotional responses it provokes, often lead to superficial and knee-jerk reactions that obscure its root causes and deflect attention and resources away from grounded, sustainable solutions.

This is the recording of a webinar that brought together experts, practitioners, and academics to discuss the issues of children's rights, child trafficking, migration, and labour. Speakers highlighted examples of ineffective responses by governments, media and non-government organisations and proposed measures to tackle the issues in ways that take into account children's and families' needs and aspirations, without causing collateral damages.

Speakers:
Brenda Oude Breuil, Utrecht University, The Netherlands
Mike Dottridge, independent expert, United Kingdom
Sam Okyere, Bristol University, United Kingdom
Elena Krsmanovic, Utrecht University
Katherine Soltis and Madeleine Taylor Diaz, Ayuda, United States
Nishat Hyder-Rahman, bioethicist and independent expert, The Netherlands

Facilitator: Borislav Gerasimov, Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women, Thailand

The discussion was based on the latest issue of Anti-Trafficking Review, an open-access, peer reviewed journal, on the same topic. The journal issue is freely accessible here https://www.antitraffickingreview.org/index.php/atrjournal/issue/view/25
