Embrace gratitude.
Discover one thing, just one, to be truly thankful for.
Let's be believers who celebrate and express gratitude to the Almighty, in both good and challenging times. Sure, the car may have broken down, but I'm grateful for legs that allow me to walk. Perhaps I lost my job – a hurdle, but I still thank God for my enduring health.
Even if you can't afford a fancy dinner, appreciate that you've never missed a meal. As people of God, let's cultivate a spirit of gratitude.
Make it your habit to pause and say thank you. Recall the story in Luke 17 when Jesus healed ten lepers—only one returned to express gratitude. Let's be that one.
Reflect on this: only one leper returned to express gratitude.
If I could speak to those nine lepers, I'd ask them how they could overlook the Lord's kindness and not say thank you. Sadly, many of us today do the same. We often fail to take a moment to thank God for what we now consider normal.
When the bills are paid, money is in the bank, and there's plenty to be joyful about, do you remember to say thank you, Lord? Can you recall where you once were and acknowledge the journey?
And what about the tough times? When work is a struggle, the business isn't thriving, and problems pile up, do you remember to say thank you? Thank you, Lord, because although I may be hard-pressed, I'm not crushed. I may be perplexed, but I'm not in despair. Persecuted, yet not forsaken. Struck down, but not destroyed.
Find something to be thankful for. Don't overlook the goodness of the Lord.
Picture Moses standing before a burning bush in Exodus Chapter 3, hearing the voice of God. In verse 13, Moses asks God what to say if the Israelites inquire about His name.
God responds, "I am who I am. Tell them, 'I am' has sent me to you."
These words, "I am who I am," are just as relevant today as when God spoke them to Moses. They convey a powerful message. Regardless of your situation, needs, or the challenges you faced yesterday and may face today, God is declaring, "I am that which you need."
So, take heart. Believe that everything you and I could ever need can be found in the Lord as we approach Him in prayer.
I truly believe that God is declaring, "I am your healing, your peace, your waymaker when there seems to be no way. I am your protection, your strong power, your salvation, and your help in the time of trouble."
With this profound understanding, let's enter into prayer.
Father God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, I humbly bow before you today. You are the Great I Am, and in you, I can find all I need. You are my provision in times of need, Jehovah Jireh, my provider. You, Lord, are the solution to all my cares and burdens. You are the way when there seems to be no way.
I offer a psalm of thanksgiving, as Psalm 100 says: "Make a joyful shout to the Lord, serve the Lord with gladness. Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us and not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name, for the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations."
I take this moment to express my gratitude for everything, Lord, through the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. Thank you for being with me through it all.
You remain a good God, unwavering in goodness.
When I call upon your name, Father, I trust and believe that you work in mighty and perfect ways. I am confident that everything I need can be found in you, Lord Jesus, the Good Shepherd who never leaves me lacking.
You are more than capable of delivering me from every test and trial, able to perform miracles in my life. The prophet Samuel aptly described you as a rock, a fortress, and a deliverer—the one in whom I take refuge, my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, and my refuge. My Savior, I bless your name, for your love is unending.
