Why Let Scripture Define Itself?

Isaiah 42-46
Our reading in Isaiah 42 is a great example of letting the Bible define itself. Let me show you what I mean...
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

There are dozens of Bible commentators and scholars that seem to very be confused by Isaiah Chapter 42. They pontificate about who or what is being referenced in this chapter. Maybe it's the Jews, maybe it's religious people, maybe it's Isaiah or Cyrus or perhaps a collection of prophets.

But this is the dark side of scholarship! Overthinking, over intellectual, elitist mentality all with the goal of keeping truth from the common man.

Ultimately it's the root of all false religion, whether that be Catholic, Charismatic, Baptist, Buddhist, Mormon or Jehovah Witness, the goal of scholarship is to maintain that priestly barrier between you and God.

So let's look at how simple this really is when you let the Bible speak for itself...

Matthew 12:15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

Matthew 12:16 And charged them that they should not make him known:

Matthew 12:17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

Matthew 12:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

There's no question who Isaiah was prophesying about in Chapter 42, it just requires that you actually read the Scriptures!

With the same idea in mind, let's look at Isaiah 43:10-11.

There are many people, even people that claim to be Christian who struggle with the truth that "God was manifest in the flesh" in the form of Jesus Christ and yet, here are the Scriptures telling us this very thing...

Isaiah 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

Isaiah 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

And here is the apostle Paul confirming the same to Timothy:

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Conclusion:
While it doesn't require faith to read the Bible, because Hebrews 11:1 clearly tells us that "faith is... the evidence of things not seen" and clearly we can "see" our Bible...

(Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.)

But it does require faith to trust that God will reveal truth to you, and "after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster" and consequently, you're no longer under the bondage of scholarship and the false idea that you must learn to understand Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic to know what God said!

Galatians 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Galatians 3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
(or scholarship!)
Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
