James Baldwin, one of the most prolific and insightful African American writers in our history, is also one of the most quoted authors in American literature. His was one of the most pronounced voices of the civil rights era. Baldwin's plays, novels, and essays cut deeply into the soul of America, exposing the hypocrisy that permeates the facade of democratic ideals and institutions.

This series of conversations will explore some of Baldwin's lesser known works, explore Baldwin scholar's works, and dig more deeply into some of the works we think we know well. Our goal is to mine Baldwin in order to draw fresh insights into the challenges we face today, and connect him with a liberative theology that energizes our justice work, as we move forward to create Beloved Community.

Join our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, and the Back to Baldwin creative team: Dir. of Social Justice, Daryle Brown, Rev. Dr. Christophe Ringer, Kevin Tyson, Olivia Chase, Tiwanda Parker and Dr. Stephanie Davenport in this first session, for a fresh interrogation of one of America's most heralded writers, and yes, prophets.

This, our kickoff session, uses the book "The Gospel According to Baldwin: What America’s Great Prophet Can Teach Us about Life, Love, and Identity," by Greg Garrett.
