Spiritual warfare is a concept we find in the Bible, and it's like a big, invisible battle that's happening all around us. This battle isn't about lands or money, but about something much more important: our hearts and souls.
God, who is the creator of everything, made you with a special purpose. He wants you to know Him, to worship Him, and to feel His love. This is like a parent wanting their child to know they are loved and valued.
However, there's an opposing force at work, which the Bible names as the devil or Satan. This enemy is always trying to lead us away from God's love. The devil doesn't fight with physical weapons but uses lies and deceptions to trick us into turning away from God.
Now, whether you already believe in God or not, this battle affects you. The enemy uses different tricks depending on where you are in your faith journey. But his goal is always the same: to keep you away from experiencing God's love.
Now, this battle of spiritual warfare has three main players: the world, our own desires (which the Bible often calls 'the flesh'), and the devil.
In the Bible, there are many stories and teachings that help us understand this spiritual battle. For example, in Ephesians 6 :12, it says, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." This verse tells us that our real fight is with these spiritual forces, not with the things we can see and touch.
Another example is the story of Jesus being tempted by the devil in the wilderness (Matthew 4: 1 - 11). Even Jesus faced this spiritual battle. The devil tried to tempt Him with physical needs, power, and testing God. But Jesus resisted by using God's word, showing us that relying on God and His truth is the way to win this spiritual fight.
Paul also tells us in Second Corinthians 10 : 4 that the weapons we use in this spiritual battle are not ordinary weapons. They are powerful and spiritual. One of the most powerful weapons we have is prayer. Prayer is like a bullet that never misses its target. It always hits the mark. Through prayer, we can fight against these unseen evil forces and win.
Sadly, sometimes we forget how powerful prayer is. But it's important to remember that prayer is our key weapon in spiritual warfare. When we pray, we are fighting this invisible battle. We are using the strength and power God gives us to overcome the devil's tricks and lies.
Let us close our eyes and I would like to pray with you.
