Dr. Peter Sherman and Diane Strom, of the Bronx Human Trafficking Task Force, offer an exploration of the human trafficking of adolescents, including definition, types, and differences between trafficking and smuggling. Discussion focuses on identification of traffickers and recruiters, locations frequently associated with trafficking and methods of recruitment. Emphasis is placed on how to recognize the indicators of human trafficking, needs of victims and survivors, and barriers to care. Using a video depicting a case of trafficking in a medical setting, group discussion is encouraged to further explore participants’ experiences, concerns, and questions. Current legislation and legal response are described, as is the interagency collaboration in the Bronx.
